I hate when I feel like I have to blog just to keep everyone updated.
I’ve realized the past few days how true it is when photographers say that the winter months are the slow months. I don’t take pictures of Skyler very much anymore. There isn’t good light anymore, and I’d rather just let the camera collect dust than use the flash.
Plus, I’ve been knitting more. I’ve completed my second newborn hat.

I’m going to take off the flower and replace it with a better one. When I get around to knitting the flower. I’ve started another project. I guess I like to see how many work in progress (WIP’s) I can get at one time. I’m currently up to 4. -sigh-
In other news, I’m shooting a wedding in May. For a friend at work. I’m disgusted with the thought of shooting with my Digital Rebel. That hates me. The auto-focus quits working sometimes, for a few very scary minutes. Then the ugly continuous photo lag. Where it screams “I’m busy!” after I take 4 continuous shots. That is not good for a wedding…. But I’ve found a photog on one of my photography forums that is selling a barely used 30D for $500. Original price is up to $800 for brand new. $500 will probably be what I’m getting paid for the wedding. I’m trying to talk myself out of jumping at this chance. I NEED (okay, more of a want) a newer camera. I NEED (need for the wedding, want for my sanity) this upgrade. Seriously, how can I turn this down? And the photog is a very reputable photog. Not some bum off the street….

Ugh.

Another project completed. It’s just a simple newborn hat, but I like the satisfaction I got from completing it in under 24 hours.

The next project I will hopefully complete within the week is another pair of longies. These will have embroidered stars and moons. I can’t wait to see how that comes out.

camo longieshttp://psychoticallysane.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

The camo longies are FINALLY complete. The picture is before the waistband was completed, so they fit better than the picture shows. I love them. Now I know what my next project is going to be ;D

I finished the camo longies and neglected to take a picture of Skyler in them today. I was too busy finishing a cotton yarn swatch. Yes. I didn’t take pictures of a project because I wanted to finish a 20 stitch by 15 row fucking swatch. Seriously? Can I be a big loser?

And now that I have no current project I’m in the process of knitting (unless you count two WIP’s that are MOSTLY finished, but still need some minor tweaking before I can consider them to be completely finished), I have no clue what is next on my queue. I have some GORGEOUS jade cotton yarn I want to knit with. But no clue what to do. Newborn longies? (Thanks to the damn new CPSIA guidelines, I can’t sell them like I intended) Hat? Scarf? Matching set? (might not have enough yarn to do this. Only have about 380-ish yards and it’s a custom colorway so no chance of buying more. Not sure exactly how much yarn I will need for a matching set, and I don’t want to do just a hat or just a scarf.) or something else? HELP! Being cotton, it actually washed up really nicely and is soft. Not sickeningly soft like wool, but it’s nice and soft. I’m thinking something in the newborn sense that I can have just in case I ever get hired for newborn sessions (possible three might get. But nothing set in stone yet. People who live in Nashville bow down to Sears and JcPenny’s for their portraits. -barf-). There is nothing cuter than a 5 day old baby snuggled in a beautifully knitted blanket or snuggled deep in a knitted baby wrap.

I did get some knitting related project completed tonight. I dyed up a small 1/4 ounce of my merino wool roving a little over a week ago and finally drafted and spun it up tonight. I have maybe 3 yards of yarn, but I had to see how well it spun. I’m in heaven. Pencil roving spins like a dream and now I have some more yarn to throw in with my “left-overs”. I think they will be fun to make a hudson hat with. I also finally tied up a hank that has been sitting on my niddy noddy for about two weeks. I’m going to save it like that until I’m ready to knit with it. Tomorrow night I’m going to set the twist in my sample yarn and start my next project. Which now I want to use the yarn my sister hand-spun and hand-dyed for me (seriously? definitely top of the list for best christmas presents ever. This past Christmas was perfect) and knit Skyler a new hat and scarf. And then again I’m led to wondering whether I will have enough yarn for it. Dammit.

Tomorrow I will decide on a project. I can’t start on anything tonight seeing as it’s now 11:30pm and I have to wake up in roughly 6 and a half hours. Crap….

And before I forget. The yarn I want to knit with. Maybe it will help with ideas? And the yarn is a much more vibrant color. I killed the color with an unfortunate white balance issue.

football dudethe youth is not wasted on the young.

I love him and his “helmet”. Which is a really a Titan’s chip party bowl. It was found in a cupboard and now he pretends he is a football player. He spent the whole day asking me to “Play football me??” and to “tackle me”.

At definitely gives me something to smile about.

It’s no secret that I tend to back off the blogging when I became depressed start feeling a little down. I’m trying to pull myself out of that habit though. I keep reminding myself that writing everything out is good therapy when I’m too stubborn to turn to a doctor or a therapist to help me get out of this slump.
I received the news this afternoon that one of my friends at work has decided to turn in a two week notice. After losing an exec last week, I’m sad to see another one go. I knew it was coming. She’s been overly stressed from working two jobs and from the amount of work they put on her. It just sucks because the people that make the job bearable are leaving.
The only good thing from the situation is the job opening. A job that while it would be extremely stressful, it’s a job I want. I’m tired of doing the sit-down job. I want a job that challenges me. So I can put in a job promotion opportunity and get turned down for the job because my availability is too limited (the job will require closing one weekend a month, opening one weekend a month and closing one day a week) or I can not put in a job promotion opportunity and keep wondering “what if” and if I really had a chance to get the job.
It’s times like this that I hate being a single mom. When I have no one willing to watch Skyler at nights and on the weekends, so I can work. When there is no one to take over caring for him when I need a 5-minute time out to prevent myself from flipping out. To be there for me when it just gets to be too much.
Truth be told, it was my choice. I guess I just have to make the best of it.
Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don't know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of withering, of tarnishing.

Because I have to post a final picture of the hand-spun yarn before I take it to a local yarn store to wind it into a ball.

I’m having trouble on making a decision on what to make with it. I’m thinking newborn hat. Maybe one of my blog readers can give me anymore ideas? Pretty please??

Dante grew wings at 8:33am this morning. His family is in my thoughts. I’m glad you aren’t feeling anymore pain Dante, but please watch over your family and help them through their pain.

Skyler refused to go to sleep last night till 11:30pm. He wanted to lay in my bed and snuggle with me. I, of course, wasn’t ready for bed, so I let him lay on the couch (in complete darkness) in hopes that he was going to fall asleep. He didn’t. Instead we talked.

S- I’m scared mommy.
M- Scared of what?
S- Monsters. Monsters gonna get me.
M- Monsters aren’t going to get you. I won’t let them. The Backyardigans are also going to snuggle with you and keep the monsters away.
S- No. Mommy keep monsters away.

I love him.

you are nothing short of amazing

I’m almost done with the camo longies. Just one more pant leg to knit up, knit together the crotch and sew up the elastic in the waistband, and I’m done. Next project will probably be a blue and white pair of newborn/3 months longies. I have some really soft wool yarn that will be perfect.

purple/pink spun yarn

My first handspun yarn. It’s of varying weight and it curls in some places, but I’m still proud of my work. I can’t wait to knit with it. :D

I’m FINALLY almost done with my knitted santa hat. Just in time for…. er…. it’ll be done for next Christmas. Next project is going to be this. I know I need to finish his longies, but those will just have to wait another week. (or more. I’m bad. I know)

I ordered some superwash wool to practice dying and then I’m going to spin it up. I can’t wait to see how it comes out. I’ll be sure to post pictures!
