I was strictly a wool lover. I would buy the cheapy cotton peaches n’ cream yarn to satisfy a need to buy yarn. Not sure what I have planned for knitting with it. I had a plan at the time. I was still a cotton hater though. It was stiff, scratchy, felt like cardboard. Just a tad softer than acrylic.
Then I got the news that Knit Picks was introducing new colors into their Simply Cotton line. I’m a yarn addict. I HAD to have it. So I found a pattern and decided to the try the yarn. Maybe it would be like Blue Sky Alpacas 100% organic cotton. (only the most amazing cotton yarn in the world, just too pricy) I couldn’t decide on a color, so I bought from the Simply Cotton Organic Sport yarn. The Malted Milk color. (bottom right if you click the link) Picked out a pattern to knit with it.
And I cast on. Had some doubts. The yarn was too thin. I like my worsted and bulky weight. The yarn was soft yes, but doesn’t glide across my bamboo needles like wool. So I bought some nickel-plated needles I needed. Yarn glides a little easier, but still not like wool. I kept knitting. And then I got farther into the project and I was converted. The drape is extraordinary. The lightness, the airiness of the fineness of the sport weight. Perfect. Utterly, absolutely, incredibly perfect. And I’m completely converted. I want more projects to knit with sport weight. I want to break out my fingering weight yarn and knit with it.
I want to buy more of this cotton yarn and knit a shawl.
I am now an equal opportunity yarn addict. Except for acrylic. It still sucks. hardcore.

Do you know what this means?

It means I can finally knit babylegs and the legs of longies without dpns.

Is it sad when I get excited about a 9″ circular needle? Is it sad when I stalk the mailman for a simple knitting needle??

Maybe….

But just look at the short circular knitting needle goodness.

I found out about the Hiya Hiya 9″ circular needles while googling looking for a good priced 12″ knitting needle. I knew that it would still be too big for newborn and small sized longies, but it would be useful to have. Imagine my surprise when I found a blog raving about the new Hiya Hiya 9″ circular needles. Of course they were blogged about over a year ago, but they are new to me. After reading the blog, I knew that I had to have them. I coveted them and drooled over them. I imagined how amazing they would be and how smooth the yarn would slide of them. Then I got them in the mail today. After waiting only a million years for them. Ok. I’m exaggerating. I waited half a million years. So I tried them out and I am in love. They are perfect. They are TINY. At first very weird to knit with, but I’m getting used to the size. And now I know… I have to have more. I want some in smaller sizes. For socks. ooooh… Socks would be heavenly to knit on these needles….

I love….

….how every night Skyler goes to sleep snuggling a book. Yesus forbid he snuggles his stuffed animals.
….how every WEEKDAY morning he yells at me that he wants to sleep. “Light off!” he demands. Too bad he won’t sleep in on the weekends.
….when I pick him up from daycare and I’m greeted with not one, not two, not three, but FOUR (aren’t I lucky?) hugs around my legs and 1 amazing smile that I can’t wipe off his face. He’s always so glad to see me and so sad to leave daycare.
….how he offers me his bottle of water (really it’s mine) and when I turn down the offer, gets an angry look in his eyes and yells at me until I take a drink. I guess I was thirsty ;)
….the way he loves to snuggle while watching Wonderpets and the way he loves to dance while watching Backyardigans.
….the way he sings along while we are watching Wonderpets.
….how sweet, smart and amazing my wonderful little boy is.
….every moment I have with Skyler. He is my world.

He’s been making me laugh when I need it most. He makes silly faces and loves to laugh and smile. He doesn’t give smiles for anything or anybody, so every smile and every laugh I manage out of him is incredibly special.

He loves to play and wrestle and finds everything I do so hilarious. From building beds out of blocks for his stuffed animals to tossing him up in the air when we are outside. He had me lay down on the floor and then proceeded to cover me with blocks until I sat up quickly and roaring at him. That one had him falling on the floor because he was laughing so hard.

He loves snuggles at times when I need snuggles the most. He runs to me and gives me a huge hug around the legs when I arrive at his daycare. Then lets go to retrieve his stuffed lovey only to come back to me and give me another hug. He then grabs my hand and waves “bye bye” at his friends and to tell them “Bye Bye! See you morrow!”.

He shares his food with me and shares his paci at bedtime. He always wants me to lay down in his bed but settles for his giraffe and bear when I tell him that it’s not mommy’s bedtime just yet. It the morning I get a huge smile and a “Hi Mommy!” to start my day with.

I could go on and on to express how much I love him and how much joy he brings into my world. Or I could post a picture that expresses that and so much more. I love you Skyler. 2 is going to be an incredible age for you. It’s going to be an incredible year. We will live it well.
